Abstract

A range of surgical and non‐surgical techniques have received increasing attention in recent years in an effort to reduce the duration of a course of orthodontic treatment. Various surgical techniques have been used. However, uncertainty exists in relation to the effectiveness of these procedures and the possible adverse effects related to them .
Currently, fixed orthodontic treatment requires a long duration of about 2–3 years, which is a great concern and poses high risks of caries, external root resorption and decreased patient compliance. Thus, accelerating orthodontic tooth movement and the resulting shortening of the treatment duration would be quite beneficial. To date, several novel modalities have been reported to accelerate orthodontic tooth movement, including low-level laser therapy pulsed electromagnetic fields electrical currents corticotomy distraction osteogenesis and mechanical vibration. However, pertinent results are inconclusive, and some are unreliable, which may bias clinicians' understandings and mislead clinical practice . the discision technique was developed as a minimally invasive alternative method to piezocision technique, and the authors suggest that this new method yields good outcomes in achieving rapid tooth movement. The efficacy of this newly developed technique should be proved by performing controlled clinical trials comparing this technique with powerchain retraction method method .
